NVIDIA Readies Ultra-Enthusiast Mobility GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Graphics Card – Aimed at 4K Ready Gaming Laptops
While NVIDIA’s competitors are still offering mainstream chips to laptop gamers, the GeForce side has decided to put their top gaming chip inside mobility platforms. You heard it right, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will soon be making its way to laptop users with the same configuration as the desktop variant.

NVIDIA already offers desktop grade GeForce 10 series GPUs for the mobility market. The GeForce GTX 1080 is currently the fastest laptop solution for graphics enthusiasts on the mobility market. It features the same specifications as the desktop part and the performance remains unmatched. But what could be better than a full fledged GTX 1080 Ti for laptop users?
According to Videocardz (via NotebookReview), NVIDIA has indeed prepared a MXM board that utilizes the GP102 GPU. This new board bears the device ID of 10DE 1BF0 – 1558 7879. When looking at the over all specs, this is confirmed to be the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics chip but for laptops. In the past, green team has used their G*104 chips for notebook solutions but this time, they are going to put the bigger dies on laptops too.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti for mobility was featured on a Clevo laptop. Clevo is known to produce some really beefy laptop designs that come with LGA sockets. The system packs a Core i7-7700K desktop processor, 64 GB of DDR4 memory clocked at 2400 MHz and the GTX 1080 Ti mobility GPU.

Coming to the specifications of the GPU, we are looking at 3584 CUDA Cores and 11 GB of GDDR5X VRAM that’s also the highest featured on mobility parts. The chip is clocked at 1480 MHz base and 1582 MHz boost which is surprising since these are the same clocks as the desktop variant. The memory clock is maintained at 11010 MHz or 11 GHz. This pumps out a bandwidth of 484.4 GB/s, the highest for any GPU featured on a laptop.
Now one thing to note is that the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti itself is a 250W TDP part and that’s too much for laptops to handle. The GTX 1080 on the other hand is a 180W TDP part but that is also featured on the laptop form factor. That’s a difference of 70W so we will be looking at 1080 Ti mobility GPUs on some really beefy laptop solutions with bigger batteries.
NVIDIA may also device a more brute GPU Boost algorithm, specifically for this GPU for it to be sustainable in terms of power consumption on laptop solutions. At the time of writing this article, the board is still in engineering or early development phase so we might see some adjustments made here and there for NVIDIA to optimize power and efficiency further.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Performance Numbers – Over 33K Graphics Score in 3DMark
In terms of graphics performance, well, the GTX 1080 Ti mobility blows the GTX 1080 (Desktop) away. The stock GTX 1080 scores around 27-28K graphics points in 3DMark 11 but this thing does over 33K in the same benchmark. This is a huge leap in performance and we can expect some decent 4K gaming GPU performance out of this bad boy on laptops.
Many users would be excited to hear about the 1080 Ti coming to laptops but since this is a bit early, we will have to wait a few months before we get to see any retail products. Also, the cost is going to be high for 1080 Ti based laptop products.
