Apple & Microsoft Warn Mac Users NOT to Clean Install Creators Update – Here’s How You Can Update

Were you planning to clean install Creators Update on your Mac using Boot Camp? While you may have previously used Boot Camp to get the latest Windows flavors right on your MacBook, Creators Update isn’t yet available for clean installation on Macs.

Apple and Microsoft both have released instructions today warning that Mac users shouldn’t try to clean install Creators Update on MacBooks using Boot Camp. If you do want to install the latest Windows 10 version, you will need to install the Anniversary Update ISO and then update to Creators Update. Microsoft wrote the following on its Windows 10 download page.

“Mac customers using Boot Camp: Instead of performing a new install of Creators Update, download and install Windows 10 Anniversary Update ISO. Then install the Creators Update via the normal Windows update process.

“If you try to do a clean install of the Creators Update, you will get a Stop error with the code 0xc000000f in winload.efi.”

In its support page, Apple also wrote that Mac users will get a blue screen of death if they try to clean install Creators Update using Boot Camp. Then, you will need to use Boot Camp Assistant to delete the partition and start over.

Both Apple and Microsoft are working together to resolve the issue.

First-time installations of Windows 10 Creators Update are not currently compatible with Boot Camp Assistant on macOS. Apple and Microsoft are working to resolve this issue. In the meantime, users wishing to use Windows 10 Creators Update on a Mac can first install Windows 10 Anniversary Update using Boot Camp Assistant. Then update to Windows 10 Creators Update from within Windows running on your Mac.
